KP Metrowest Basketball Tryouts - Update
TRYOUT REGISTRATION IS CLOSED. WE CAN NOT HAVE WALK-IN'S.
Thank you all for your patience as we navigate the complexity of launching our program for the 2020-2021 season. The volunteers on the KPBA board have been working hard to make things as normal as possible, however because of restrictions due to Covid-19 we will have to conduct tryouts much differently than we have done in previous years.
In following state guidelines, we are limited in how many players we can have on a court at the same time. We are even more restricted when it comes to scrimmages and drills with defense. Therefore, we have made the following decisions:
- Any player that has already registered for tryouts this season, and made a team last year, will have a spot on that same team this year.
- If there is an available spot on the A team for a particular grade, there will be a one hour skills-based tryout for all players from the previous year's B team (that have already registered for tryouts for this season) for that spot.
- If there are any available spots on the B team, there will be a one hour skills-based tryout for any player that has already registered for this year's tryouts and did not play on a team last year.
All Tryouts are at Mass Premier Courts in Foxboro

5th Grade Girls | Tuesday 11/3 6:00-7:00 pm | 1 & 5 | All registered players, new and returning, attend this tryout to make an A and B team |
5th Grade Boys | Monday 11/2 7:30-9:00 pm | 2 & 4 | All registered players who played last year attend this tryout to make an A or B team. There are no spots available for players who did not play on a 4th grade team last year. |
6th Grade Girls | Tuesday 11/3 7:00-8:00 pm | 1 | 1 spot on the B team. Registered returning players should not attend this tryout. This tryout is only for registered players who did not play last season. |
6th Grade Boys | Wednesday 11/4 7:00-8:00 pm | 1 | 1 spot on B. Registered players on last year's 5th grade A and B teams do not need to attend. This tryout is only for registered players who did not play last season who want to tryout for the 1 spot on the B team. |
7th Grade Girls | Tuesday 11/3 8:00-9:00 pm | 1 & 5 | 1 spot on A, 1 spot on B. Registered players on last year's 6th grade A team do not need to attend. This is only for registered players from last year's B team who want to tryout for the 1 spot on the A team, and registered players who did not play last season who want to tryout for the spot on the B team. |

8th Grade Girls | Tuesday 11/3 7:00-8:00 pm | 5 | Registered players on last years 7th grade A team do not need to attend. This tryout is only for registered players from last years B team who want to tryout for available spots on the A team, and registered players who did not play last season. |
8th Grade Boys | Wednesday 11/4 8:00-9:00 pm | 1 | 1 spot on B. Registered players on last year's 7th grade A and B teams do not need to attend. This tryout is only for registered players who did not play last season who want to tryout for the 1 spot on the B team. |
Please note:
- Please bring your own basketball to tryouts
- If you are a returning player please wear a practice jersey or game jersey WITH YOUR NUMBER ON IT. For safety we will not be handing out pinnies as we' have done in previous years.
- The gyms require all players to wear masks in the hallways and on the court if there is any scrimmaging. During drills without defense the players have the option to take their masks off, however we are requiring masks throughout the entire tryout session.
- Please do not enter the gym more than 10 minutes before your scheduled time and exit immediately upon completion of your tryout.
- We are not making any decisions about coaches at this time.
- Due to enhanced safety protocols, we ask that parents of players who are trying out either drop their child off or watch from outside of the court area.
- We do not have any information from Metrowest about when the season might start or any modification to rules for this season.
- Since school gyms cannot be used, private facilities like Mass Premier Courts are fully booked. We will not have any insight into exact practice schedules for the next few weeks, however at this time we do believe they will all take place at either Mass Premier Courts, the Foxboro Charter Schools, or the Sage School in Foxboro.
- We are providing practice jerseys this year like we usually do, however we are going to wait on any uniform purchases as this time.
- Once tryouts are completed, we will send additional notice on next steps. We anticipate practices to start the second week of November.
Again, this has been an extremely challenging year however KPBA is committed to finding a safe, effective way for the players to continue to enjoy the sport of basketball while improving their game. We thank you for your understanding and appreciate your cooperation now and throughout the season.
